Protecting your Rights

All Monash students have rights in regard to the quality of their education and the way they are treated by their faculty and the university.

In an institution the size of Monash there is always going to be the possibility that something can go wrong with the quality of your education. As a student you have rights in this regard and the two SROs (Student Rights Officers) employed by the MSA are here to help you know your rights and act as advocates where necessary.

Some of the rights you have as a Monash student are the right to timely and constructive feedback on assignments, the right to query an academic decision (such as assignment marks) and appeal if warranted and the right to have someone present to support you if called to a meeting with a member of the university.

SROs are available to help present your case to your faculty if you are suspected of cheating, plagiarising or any other disciplinary offence, or if you face exclusion due to poor academic performance.

SROs also work to improve university policy with regards to student rights, so if you have any general concerns as a student come and discuss them, or any other individual academic problems, with an SRO at the Student Rights Office near MSA reception on the first floor of the Campus Centre
