Welcome to the Mature Age and Part-Time Students Association

MAPS strives to raise the profile and represent the interests of mature age, part-time, and distance education undergraduates both within and outside the university. It seeks to provide a strong support network for students and representation on a range of education-related issues. MAPS also holds social functions and study skills workshops.

Mature age and part-time students often face unique challenges, such as limited time on campus while combining study with other commitments. As a result, it can be difficult to form social networks at university. MAPS attempts to overcome this, by providing services to make attending university a successful and rewarding time.

MAPS Lounge, Office and Quiet Study Area / Computer Room :
The MAPS lounge (opposite the John Medley Library) is open from 8am - 8pm weekdays and is available for use by all undergraduate mature age, part-time, and distance education students. There is a well-equipped kitchen at one end of the lounge where you can store your own cup, buy low-cost tea, coffee and milo, heat food in the microwave ovens and store items temporarily in the fridge. The Quiet Study Area is an adjacent room to the lounge with four networked computers and space for notebook computer users, from which you can also print using your student account. The MAPS office is directly across from the computer room and attended to by the MAPS Student Liaison Officer, a staff member available on Mondays and Tuesdays between 1000am to 430pm during semesters, whom you can approach for any queries, suggestions or concerns related to MAPS.

MAPS Events:
MAPS runs several events throughout the year, from a dedicated orientation programme in February each year to the end-of-year MAPS Bash celebrations, with Cheese & Wine afternoons, BBQs and other social events in-between. MAPS also organises various self-help workshops for students. These include 'Writing for the Arts', 'Writing for Psychology', and computer courses. Check the MAPS website or the lounge noticeboard for details.
